Saturday
Well, tonight's the night for Everything She Ever Wanted's first 2 hours. I'm so sorry to have to tell you without extended cable that "Mary" discovered she didn't have the right equipment to download onto DVD's. All she got last week was white "snow." The movies/minis will show soon in Canada, and I will try to find a way to make copies for those who can't get LMN. I can't make copies for people who had other plans for this weekend, though. So far, we've had fabuluous "numbers" and good reviews in People, Hollywood Reporter, TV GUide, Atlanta Constituion-Journal, Chicago Sun-times, N.Y. Post, New York Daily News and more. I'm thrilled. Only my own hometown papers and TV stations have totally ignored me. Sigh. Isn't always the way? I watched last week's movie all alone, but I hope to drum up a few friends this weekend. Long ago,I planned a lavish party--but I'm on deadline, and playing catch-up after the trial in Chehalis for the new book I'm writing. Somehow, I think Danielle Steele et al live a more glamorous life than I do! I thank you for all the ARF stories, and I'm glad I've had a chance to meet so many of you. They don't send me out on book tours much anymore--No one goes, what with the Internet and all. For those of you who have lived through abusive marriages, I understand. I suffered emotional abuse for 18 years before I got the gumption to go it alone with my kids. I know a lot of us did--even if we don't mention it. The result is usually a strong woman.Right? PLEASE CHECK YOUR TV LOCAL GUIDES TODAY AND TOMORROW. ON THE WEST COAST, ESEW STARTS AT 5--NOT 8. IF YOU HAVE HI-DEF, THERE'S ANOTHER TIME ON BOTH COASTS. VERY CONFUSING. But I think it will be worth it if you can find the miniseries.
For TLTSG, we came in #1 for all LMN Saturday nite shows in 2009, #5 for all movies for the season. Hope you and everyone you ever knew will be watching tonight and tomorrow?

Love,

Ann

Wednesday Evening
Lots of sunshine today. Surprise! The jury came back yesterday with all 12 of them finding the coroner in error when he ruled that Ronda Reynolds was a suicide. Can you imagine what that means to her mom, Barb, who has fought for 11 years to bring out the truth? What happens next? I don't know. I'm doing my best to present all sides of this haunting case in In the Still of the Night.

I have met lots of good guys, a few guys not so good, and a lot of people who want to know the answers to this mystery.

Stevens County is like any other lightly populated place, where secrets don't last very long. It has a great antique mall that I always visit if I can, and many outlet stores, a sense of history, and problems with drug dealers. As I've said, people there are friendly and I was treated very well. The Best Western there is a great place to stay!

Sometimes, the trial and the research are the easiest parts of writing a book, but the moment of truth always comes when it's just me and my computer with blank pages waiting for me to fill them. That's where I am now, so I'd better close this and face reality.

Oh, I have 5 cats now: Buns, Beanie, Toonces, Siren, and K.C. and 3 dogs: Lucy, Willow, and Yogi. Feeding everybody takes at least half an hour, and they are not patient! My garden is a pathetic mess, and I'll bet Heather's is all cleaned up and cut down, and warmed for the winter with mulch. I think Martha Stewart must have a lot more help than I do to keep everything perfect (except for going to prison that time).

Next time I go to court,I'm going to buy a set of those fake buttocks so I won't feel the hard benches, even if I do look peculiar! And my knees still hurt from getting up and down to honor the judge, and then the jury. Good thing I find trials fascinating so I don't notice how much everything hurts until later! Maybe Colorado Rosie can make me a pillow-sized quilt and stuff it with foam rubber instead? Oh the occupational hazards of a crime writer.

Tuesday
Well, the hearing is over that will have a huge impact on In the Still of the Night, and Ronda finally got her day in court. I'll put all the details in my book. My backside is numb from sitting on hard oak benches for five or six days, but I'm so glad I went to the hearing. Met most of the "players" in this drama and that helps a lot when I describe them. Chehalis is a very friendly town, and I'll be going back.

CURRENT NEWS: I got my first copies of But I Trusted You last Saturday, which means they should be in stores any time now. I hope you'll find the cases as fascinating as I did. I always say it--what real people do is so much more interesting than fiction. And the folks in #14 of my True Crime Files is full of "unusual" people, and good detective work.

It is raining buckets right now, and the dogs and cats were very happy to see me come home. For Northwest critters, they all HATE rain. I will be home writing all the time now, with an occasional break for lunch--and for Thanksgiving. Can't believe it's pumpkin pie making time again. Didn't I just do that?

Don't forget to watch LMN this weekend, where you will be showered with my books turned into miniseries and movies. I have taken your critiques to heart on last week's movie, and will discuss them with my producer. Be sure and check your local TV listings to be sure of the times. It's different for High Def and for regular TV. See the movies that will show on the Home Page here.

Have to go feed the dogs the treats I brought home in "doggie bags" from restaurants. They're expecting them. If I'm late in answering email or other mail, please remember that I've been away, and writing all the time when I'm home.

Love,

Ann

Sunday
Well, as Dear Abby would say, I'm being slapped with lots of wet noodles over the movie last night.

I tried to warn everyone that Hollywood writers do strange things with the truth. I fought for as much as I could to keep it absolutely factual, but the writer made changes to add "suspense." I'm sorry if you're disappointed, but please don't be mad at me?

I think Everything She Ever Wanted is a little closer to the truth--except for missing characters, combined characters, and one love affair that never happened. They will both be on next weekend--but consult your local TV Guide to be sure you have the times correct. The gal at Lifetime gave me the wrong times, and I missed watching it with friends and family last night.
And Never Let Her Go will show on LMN on Thursday.

I'm off to a trial again, and will be gone from home until Tuesday late afternoon.

I'm sure I'll have lots of complaint and, hopefully, a few compliments when I get back. In Hollywood, authors are at the bottom of the pecking order--especially book authors.

Love to you all and please try to keep an open mind.

Love,

Ann

Friday
Hi Everyone!

TOMORROW IS THE NIGHT FOR THE FIRST MOVIE: Too Late to Say Goodbye at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on LMN (The Lifetime Movie Network--not the regular Lifetime network) I've seen it now, and I think you will like it and forgive the few screenwriter's changes. For Canadian viewers. I've learned it will show up there a little later. I'll have info for you) For those who can't get unlimited cable, a kind ARF named Mary has offered to make copies of my movies if you send her blank DVDs. Write to me at my email here, and I will put you in touch. I'm pretty excited! Hope you will be too. Next weekend, my movies show on Saturday and Sunday--Sunday is the day to catch up on anything you might have missed!

I've been at the trial where Ronda Reynold's mother is suing the county coroner for not reaching the right decision on "manner of death." Was it accidental, suicide, or homicide? It's been fascinating. I go back Monday. Anyone from Lewis County or anyone who knew Ronda or Ron or their families, please get in touch with me? All will remain anonymous.

I'd better get back to writing. Story of my life, huh? It's nice to home for 2 days with my critters, and enjoying the wind and rain storms together.

Keep your eyes peeled for BUT I TRUSTED YOU. Any day now!!!

Love,

Ann

REMEMBER: Nov. 7th on LMN at 8 and 10 p.m. TOO LATE TO SAY GOODBYE with Rob LOWE AND LAUREN HOLLY,

Tuesday

LAST CHANCE. For Washingtonians, I will be speaking tomorrow at a benefit for the Sexual Assault Center of Pierce County. Bring books to have signed,(not too many as there will be a big crowd), buy new books, be among the first to order But I Trusted You. I'll talk for about half an hour, and we can visit during the booksigning afterward. It will be at noon at the Landmark Convention Center, 47 St. Helen's Ave. Tacoma. Check-in begins at 11:15 a.m. I'll have other signings after 11/15.

Well,it's 8, and with one thing and another,I haven't been able to write all day. I swear I'm going to go hole up in a cabin with running water and electricity to plug my computer in, and do nothing but write. Why am I not more organized? Why do the days go so fast?
Now, I am going to write until hunger overcomes me.

Love,

Ann

Sunday Night

Hi Everyone,

I sure hope Desperate Housewives is on today.I'm through writing for the day. Whoo. . . Making progress on In the Still of the Night now.

For people who have absolutely no way to see my miniseries, maybe some of you would agree to tape them if the ones left out would send you a tape or CD and return postage? I wish it was visible all over.

Puget Sound goes on for miles and miles and miles, more than a 100, I think. So friends who live near it aren't likely to live close to me, but you never know. Guess I'll have to start washing my face and combing my hair if anyone ever finds me!

I'm so sorry to hear of Carolyn's husband's grand-nephew. I think I have that right. 24 is wayyyy too young. We all pray that your husband's surgery turns out super great! We've had too many things to worry about on the guestbook this fall, I'm afraid--but we stick together.

I keep wishing for a vacation, trying to remember what it's like. Please do come to the Pierce County Sexual Assault Support Benefit Luncheon on 10/25 if you can. Yes, I will be signing books if people buy them there or bring them.

And I will be in the Lynwood Mall Fred Meyer store signing sometime in November or December (15 miles north of Seattle on I-5). More signings to come.

I'm reading the guestbook at least every other day, and I try to post.

Love,

Ann

Saturday Night

To anyone who would like to make a comment on the death of Ronda Reynolds, or who might have information for me for my book--In the Still of the Night--please feel free to write to me at: this email. Her violent death occurred on 12/16/98 in Lewis County, Wash. I am the ONLY one who reads this email site, and your identity will be absolutely protected if you don't want your name used. Thank you for any help you can provide. There are are so many questions that remain unanswered.

The sun is like melted butter and the skies are so blue, but I have to get my 7 hours of writing done for the day.

Love to all,

Ann Rule
